We Make Cool Things in Lugoj, Romania

In Lugoj, Romania, Honeywell’s manufacturing plant produces fire safety, security and building management solutions. The plant has also implemented a variety of energy and microgrid innovations using Honeywell solutions.

To address challenges such as power outages and high utility costs from traditional energy sources, the plant implemented an advanced energy system featuring a battery energy storage system (BESS), solar photovoltaics and a comprehensive microgrid control system, focusing on Honeywell products and processes.

By leveraging Honeywell Forge Sustainability+ for Buildings, the Lugoj Plant can monitor and manage its energy use more effectively.

The improvements extend beyond energy usage; the facility also adopted a modern Building Control System to streamline operations and enhance sustainability efforts. As a result, the plant has successfully lowered its carbon footprint and reduced utility electricity costs by 30% annually.

“We have several innovative digital tools that were developed and implemented based on what the site needs to support live daily decision making,” said Gabor Gulyas, Senior Director of Integrated Supply Chain Operations at the Lugoj site.

Gulyas and his team are focused on creating solutions for customers who rely on the life safety and building automation products manufactured there.

As far as what inspires Gulyas in leading his team in Lugoj: He says every day brings excitement and innovation.

“It’s a continuously challenging environment with opportunity for continuous improvement, and [we have a] team who is hungry for success,” Gulyas said.
