Very Early Warning Aspirating Detection
VESDA aspirating smoke detection systems continuously sample air through pipe networks to detect fire threats before visible smoke appears. Multi-level alarms provide time to investigate and respond before damage occurs.
-
Early & reliable detection, total threat prevention
VESDA-E offers ultra-sensitive ASD; 15 times better than current VESDA models with double the longevity, improved dust rejection, and less power consumption per unit area. 1
-
Gas Detection and Environmental Monitoring
The combined capabilities provide reliable detection of gases for occupant protection and process monitoring while simultaneously improving protection against fire threats.
-
Reliable Fire Detection in Large, Open Spaces
OSID-DE uses a sophisticated algorithm to map and compare the strength of infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) light signals from detectors configured in the area.
-
Reduce Downtime and Operational Costs
Protecting small- and medium-sized enterprises against smoke and fire is vital. So is keeping downtime and cost to a minimum. This is where FAAST FLEX (ASD) comes in.

Xtralis: Frequently Asked Questions
Xtralis Aspirating Smoke Detection is built around very early warning performance, multi-level sensitivity, and wide applicability across complex or high-risk environments.
ASD refers to a family of detection systems—including VESDA, VESDA E, and FAAST FLEX—that continuously draw air through a pipe network into a detection chamber. These systems provide very early warning by identifying minute smoke particles long before conventional detectors respond.
These ASD solutions detect minute levels of smoke before a fire escalates, providing critical time for investigation and response. This early detection helps prevent injury, property damage, and business disruption.
Environments that benefit the most:
- Data centers needing uninterrupted uptime
- Telecom switching rooms
- Cold storage where condensation affects traditional detectors
- High bay warehouses where smoke stratification is an issue
- Restricted access areas such as cable tunnels, elevator machine rooms, and correctional facilities.
Xtralis OSID (Open-area Smoke Imaging Detection) is an advanced projected beam smoke detection technology designed for large, open spaces such as warehouses, airports, train stations, stadiums, and shopping malls. It uses dual wavelength (UV + IR) beams and optical imaging to detect smoke early while reducing false alarms.
OSID addresses the common weaknesses of conventional beam detectors:
High tolerance to vibration and building movement
Resistance to dust, fog, steam, and ambient light
Reduced false alarms due to UV/IR discrimination
Simplified alignment using a ball and socket mount and laser tool
Wide coverage—one imager can monitor up to seven emitters
These advantages make OSID more reliable in challenging open area environments.
OSID is designed for large, open, or architecturally complex spaces, including:
Warehouses and logistics centers
Airports and train stations
Shopping malls and stadiums
Industrial facilities
High-ceiling atriums
Transportation hubs
VESDA Sensepoint XCL is an aspirating gas detection solution from Xtralis that uses the existing ASD pipe network to deliver multipoint gas sampling. It enables early detection of hazardous gases while maintaining the fire detection benefits of VESDA systems.
The system draws air samples through the ASD pipe network and passes them across a gas sensor module housed in the XCL detector.
Key elements include:
Multihole (multipoint) sampling for wide-area coverage
Integrated gas sensors for flammable, toxic, or oxygen-related hazards
Bluetooth connectivity for commissioning and diagnostics via the Sensepoint App
This design enables gas detection without installing multiple fixed spot detectors
Common applications include:
Data centers and server rooms
Semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing
Industrial plants and process areas
Cold storage and logistics centers
Cleanrooms and pharmaceutical facilities
Energy and utility infrastructure
